The Concept of Fertility Treatment

The Concept of Fertility Treatment

The term fertility treatment suggests a treatment to improve the fertility or egg production in women who would like to bring a new child into the world. This term originated from a condition known as infertility, where, a man and woman who are in a loving relationship are unable to reproduce naturally. However, this is the scientific aspect; the social implications of infertility are very drastic and tend to cause major problems within a relationship. Infertility often creates high levels of stress within relationships. The inability of the female in the relationship to conceive or give birth to a healthy child, more often than not creates very stressful conditions for both partners. This results in an adverse change in behaviour in both partners and also creates great upheaval in both personal and working life of both parties.

The Situation at Present

Infertility is no longer a new issue for couples who are planning to start a family; however the progress in the field of fertility treatment has been rather sporadic and slow even by the modern standards of advanced health

treatments. The advances or lack of, are not unrelated to the ever increasing cases of infertility among people today. We are just unable to gather enough information to help us calculate the precise situation; this is because of the huge amount of cases of infertility which are never reported. However, the amount of cases of infertility in people today appears to be on the increase. Major lifestyle changes make people more susceptible to being plagued by infertility: quite often this illness, and it is an illness, is self-inflicted. The foods which many couples eat are just one problem; they do not eat enough nutritional content which is required for healthy living. Our bodies are under enormous threat from a great deal of outside influences, pollution throughout the world is on the increase, habit forming problems such as alcohol consumption and drugs, also work related stress, all of which contribute to the causes of infertility and other life changing illness.

Infertility from a Medical Point of View.

Infertility can affect either or both parties in any relationship. The treatments required for infertility, are gender specific and will vary with each patient’s case history. There are a number of tests which can be carried out, such as hysterosalpingogram or (HSG) which is an important basic test for infertility, or postcoital test (PC test) which is also known as (sims) and must be carried out within one to two days of ovulation, each of which will help to give clear analysis of the patients illness.

After the tests have been completed, the treatment for infertility will consider any and all cures, any of these can entail a number of different procedures which will depend on the requirements of the patient and the analysis gained from the tests. Drugs such as Clomid which is used to induce ovulation and is usually the first choice of any doctor in the treatment of infertility, it will also usually be suggested to the male partner to use cold packs to help cool the testicles. These are just a few basic examples, however, only a professional infertility expert can suggest exact fertility cures.

Exercise and other complimentary treatments

Apart from the use of medical fertility treatments there are also other things which will be suggested to compliment the ongoing treatment. These complimentary suggestions will be things such as, daily nutrition intake, maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Stress is a major contributing factor to a lot of illness not least infertility, therefore stress must be dealt with immediately.

The Broader Outlook

Infertility is quite an emotional experience for all concerned and deserves to be closely scrutinised by everyone concerned with the subject. Many people are afraid to admit to be suffering from infertility, which is a real shame as there is treatment and support available from many outlets. Having to experience infertility treatment is quite a difficult exercise and entails quite a stressful and emotional time for both partners; the process can be made more difficult by people’s ignorance of the facts, and the lack of medical research.

  • Two tonnes of ‘missing’ explosive found

    February 7th, 2010

Two tonnes of the powerful explosive ammonium nitrate that were missing Wednesday afternoon have now been found, the RCMP in B.C. said.

“It was a clerical error and the missing bags of ammonium nitrate are now accounted for,” Sgt. Rob Vermeulen said.

Earlier Wednesday, the RCMP said the transportation company Kinder Morgan had reported a discrepancy in late December in the inventory of the powerful explosive from a storage facility in Surrey.

The missing ammonium nitrate consisted of two one-tonne bags in a 6,000-bag shipment.

“Out of an abundance of caution, it’s being investigated by the RCMP Integrated National Security Enforcement Team as well as both North Vancouver and Surrey detachments,” Vermeulen said.

Ammonium nitrate was used in both the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.

“The amount is quite large. If you detonate 1,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate it would make for one heck of an explosion,” said Andre Gerolymatos, a Simon Fraser University professor and expert on terrorism.

The 2010 Winter Games could be a target for terrorists, Gerolymatos said.

“Any large event that attracts world media is a potential target for terrorists,” Gerolymatos said.

The ammonium nitrate, which was destined for the mining industry, was shipped from Alberta to North Vancouver in the fall of 2009, Vermeulen said.

It was then sent from North Vancouver to Surrey, where the discrepancy was noted and reported to police by Kinder Morgan. Vermeulen stressed that there was never any evidence of theft or criminal wrongdoing.

He said Kinder Morgan conducted an extensive inventory audit to resolve the discrepancy. Ammonium nitrate can be used as a fertilizer or as an explosive to open up mining quarries.

Since the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, ammonium nitrate that is intended for use as a fertilizer is coated so that kerosene and diesel fuel cannot penetrate it, Gerolymatos said.

“It was always easy to get fertilizer. Until Oklahoma City, no one thought about fertilizer as a bomb, but [Timothy] McVeigh changed all that,” Gerolymatos said.

The missing ammonium nitrate is the non-coated variety, Gerolymatos said. “If you put kerosene on it, or diesel fuel, then kaboom.”

Kinder Morgan is a North American pipeline transportation and energy storage company that operates the Vancouver Wharves terminal in British Columbia.

In 1993, a 675-kilogram bomb killed six people and injured more than 1,000 people when it exploded under the World Trade Center.

The Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 killed 168 people and left a crater six-metres wide and 2.5-metres deep.

Steps to Losing Weight and Keeping It Off

    February 2nd, 2010

What is the true key to weight loss? Is it knowing exactly what to eat? How far to run? How to mix HCG? Or is it knowing how to control the urges that force us to eat when were stressed out?

The truth is, if you knew the exact key how to safely loss the exact amount of weight you wanted you could package your secrets and sell them to the highest bidder. Nobody exactly knows the best way to lose weight. Sure, the good ol’ “eat well and exercise” works well, but without proper planning it won’t keep the weight off. And with the New Year’s resolution season coming up, its worth taking a look at the best ways to not only lose your target weight but also keep it off.

Any good weight loss plan starts with both eating well and finding an exercise program that works for you. The worst thing you can do is start your diet by saying “I’m going to eat nothing but veggies and brown rice and I’m going to run three miles every day”. That’s just not going to happen on a consistent basis. Aiming high is a great idea, except that it will burn you out within a few days.

Instead of going for the gold right away (no pun intended), begin by making small goals for yourself. Start out by walking 30 minutes a day four days a week. Then, after a few weeks, maybe run 2 days a week and walk another three. You can add some calisthenics in after a few weeks. Always check your heart rate and make sure you stay hydrated no matter what you do.

The same moderation should be used when trying to map out a meal plan to go along with your exercise. First, think about portion sizes. American’s have a tendency to eat portion sizes that dwarf those in the rest of the world. Steak serving sizes should only be about the size of a playing card, not the size of a small truck. Instead of loading your plates with carbs such as pasta and potatoes, instead start eating vegetables with lemon and olive oil. Instead of soda drink natural juices or water. If you must, a diet soda can be utilized.

Next, set realistic goals for yourself. If proper diet and exercise is utilized you can expect to lose 2-4 pounds a week. After a few weeks you might see a drop off in the amount lost, but that’s only natural. Maybe start some weight training to get some definition. The key is making it fun. If you don’t enjoy the process and have some fun it you’re going to slip. That’s how you gain the weight back.

How To Effectively Choose Safe Discount Motorbike Helmets

    January 30th, 2010

When you are looking for a motorcycle helmet there are many places where you can purchase discount motorcycle helmets. However, it is important to know what to look for in a helmet so that you do not compromise safety and quality in order to save a few dollars. When you are riding bikes, the quality of your motorcycle helmet can make all the difference between life and death. Therefore you want to choose the best discount motorcycle helmet you can find.

Choosing the most expensive or the sleekest looking helmet design is not likely to be the key to finding the best helmet for you. There are a number of things to think about and you should try several helmets before purchasing.

You may be surprised to learn that it is low speed accidents where motorists pull out in front of a motorbike rider that are the most common. These commonly occur at less than 25 kph, but can still cause considerable damage to the rider if they are not wearing an appropriate helmet.

When using your bike on the road, the best type of helmet to choose is a full face helmet. These can substantially reduce wind interference, dust and bugs getting into your face and blurring your vision. A full face helmet can help to keep you more alert on the road and safer in the long run. It is also very important to choose a color that stands out in all kinds of weather, which makes it easier for other motorists to see you.

One of the best pieces of advice when you are looking at discount motorcycle helmets is to choose a helmet with the SNELL approval sticker or one approved by DOT, the US Department of Transport. These organizations put helmets through rigorous testing to ensure their safety and performance before administering a SNELL or DOT approval sticker.

Approved helmets have to prove that they can absorb a significant amount of impact and effectively reduce pressure on your head and brain in an accident. These helmets also have to have satisfactory chin straps, which stand up to impact and don’t budge or snap off.

When you try on your helmet you should do the retention test to check that it is going to stay in place upon collision. To do this test you put the helmet on and then grab it at the back part of the helmet and attempt to rip it off. If it can be wiggled or actually comes off, then you need to try another helmet. When doing this test you must really apply as much pressure as you can. A helmet that is the right fit for you will be very snug and if it is a full face helmet should push in your cheeks at the side. Extra things to think about when you are trying the helmet include ventilation, comfort and scratch proof face shields.

Your discount motorcycle helmet should be purchased only after careful thought and consideration. The helmet is an essential part of biking and getting it right could mean enjoying time with your loved ones or time in traction.

Soldiers prepare to send bodies of four comrades, journalist back to Canada

    January 27th, 2010

KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan — The deaths of four Canadian soldiers and a journalist in a roadside bombing two days before the New Year ushers in a sombre 2010 for many Canadians.

    DND Handouts; Chris Bolin handout

Sgt. George Miok, 28, Sgt. Kirk Taylor, 28, Cpl. Zachery McCormack, 21, and Pte. Garrett William Chidley, 21, were killed Wednesday when their armoured vehicle hit an improvised explosive device four kilometres south of Kandahar City. Michelle Lang, a Calgary Herald reporter covering the conflict for Canwest News Service, also died in the attack.

Five others were wounded, including four soldiers and a Canadian civilian worker.

The fallen soldiers were widely praised Thursday as dedicated and passionate men who cared for their comrades and their country.

Lang will be honoured alongside them in a formal ramp ceremony at Kandahar Airfield Friday before their aircraft takes off to bring them home. The bodies are expected to arrive back in Canada on Sunday afternoon, landing at Canadian Forces Base Trenton. From there, they’ll travel in a convoy along the Highway of Heroes, a 172-kilometre stretch of Highway 401 between Trenton and Toronto.

“Michelle will be transported back with our four lost soldiers,”said Lt.-Col. Chris Lemay. “We think it’s the right thing to do. This is the first reporter who was part of the embed program that we’ve lost. This is a first for the Canadian Forces.”

Brig.-Gen. Daniel Menard, Commander of Task Force Kandahar, offered heartfelt words about each of the victims.

Miok, based in Edmonton, was remembered as a “dedicated” officer who was well-liked by his troops. “The welfare of his soldiers came first, and they knew they could turn to him for advice and guidance.”

Taylor, based in Yarmouth, N.S., was known as “Sgt. Morale” because of his sense of humour and calm demeanour.

“He enjoyed a challenge, and though he didn’t seek the spotlight, he would take the difficult jobs without complaint,” said Menard, adding Taylor was passionate about his job mentoring troubled youth back home in Canada.

“He brought the same enthusiasm with him to Afghanistan.”

Chidley, born in Cambridge, Ont., and raised in Langley, B.C., could always beat his friends and fellow soldiers at video games. “He was a great driver, the one you wanted for difficult tasks,” said Menard.

Cam Chidley wrote about his son on Facebook Thursday: “My ex-wife Sian and I have lost our son Garrett in Afghanistan yesterday. God help us and please watch over our daughter Devon, and our son Joe.”

McCormack, based in Edmonton, was remembered as a team player who was passionate about his family and looking forward to soon marrying his fiancee.

“He was a very caring individual who always lent a helping hand to others,” Menard said. “He always had a way of raising morale by making the rest of the section laugh.”

Lang, too, was soon to be married.

In a statement he released Thursday, Lang’s fiance said her death “is the darkest and most painful moment of my life.

“I am absolutely devastated by the loss of my dearest Michelle — my partner, my best friend, and the love of my life,” said Michael Louie.

Louie, said he’s been overwhelmed with messages of condolences.

“It makes me feel really good to see all the people that Michelle has impacted or has touched,” he said. “It comes as no surprise to me whatsoever, though.”

Although new to Kandahar, Menard said Lang “touched many of us” through her sensitivity and ability to connect with people.

“Michelle . . . was a young, dynamic reporter who strove to excel at her job,” he said. “[She] was passionate about life and inspired those around her.”

Lang, 34, was just two weeks into her first stint in Afghanistan and was the first Canadian journalist to die there since the Canadian military mission began in 2002.

Brig.-Gen. Michael P. Jorgensen, commander Land Force Western Area, praised the soldiers and Lang for their sacrifice.

“The thoughts and prayers of the entire military family are with those brave soldiers who were killed or wounded, with their families and with Michelle Lang of the Calgary Herald and her family,” Jorgensen said. “Journalists embedded with our troops in Afghanistan take the same risks and expose themselves to the same dangers and discomforts as our soldiers do. They should be commended for this, as they, too, leave the comforts of their Canadian lives and their families to report from Afghanistan.”

Wednesday was an especially bloody day in Afghanistan. In addition to the attack on the Canadians, eight American civilian workers died in a suicide bomb attack on a U.S. military base close to the border with Pakistan, officials said.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for both attacks. “This work is done by us,” Yusuf Ahmadi, a spokesman for the Islamist insurgent group, told AFP.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper recognized the “heavy hearts” of Canadians and offered his sympathies.

“The five men and women who perished are true Canadian heroes,” Harper said.

Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff said it was “with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of four brave Canadian soldiers and a Canadian journalist in Afghanistan . . . Their service exemplifies the very best in courage and selflessness, and their deaths will not be forgotten as our mission to build a safe and secure country for the people of Afghanistan continues.”

“Our country has suffered a terrible tragedy in the loss of Canadian journalist Michelle Lang and four brave soldiers. … My thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends and loved ones,” said NDP Leader Jack Layton.

Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean, too, reacted with sadness to the deaths and injuries.

“It reminds us of the underhanded, blind, daily violence facing our Canadian soldiers, journalists and humanitarian workers in Afghanistan, who are working alongside the local population already hard hit by decades of terror.

“Our thoughts are with the families, the loved ones and the colleagues of the deceased. We also wish the injured a prompt recovery.”

Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai offered his condolences Thursday.

“The Afghans will not forget your sacrifice,” Karzai said in statement reported by Canadian Press. “Your children sacrificed their lives for the people of Afghanistan and the threat of terrorism.”

The deaths bring the toll of Canadian soldiers to 138 since the mission there began in 2002.

At least 17 journalists from around the world have been killed in Afghanistan since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, according to statistics maintained by the Committee to Protect Journalists, an independent, non-profit organization.

A Few Things To Be Considered When Creating a Website

    January 24th, 2010

If you have decided to develop a website of your own, web building software will help you make your dream come true. Those who are planning to set up a business creating websites for others should learn HTML & other skills necessary for site building. But ordinary Internet users who would like to have websites of their own just need suitable site development tools & a few hours to complete the procedure.

There is no need to be qualified in website building to choose ideally suited development programs. The most used ones are the so-called WYSIWYG builders (What You See IS What You Get builders). They can be easily operated by anyone who knows the word processor basic ideas. All you need to do is to pick templates, type them in your text & by means of editing tools to make changes, pick out colours and add photos & – that is it. No need to worry about links. They are added automatically. Thus, as soon as you are through, merely click the submit button to have the procedure completed & get you website published. In fact it is believed to be the easiest way to develop a site.

Website hosting packages commonly contain WYSIWYG builders that come in 2 types: on-line versions to be used everywhere and versions to be downloaded. You use them off-line & can upload your webpage upon termination. Normally there are tutorials and demonstration programs to help you figure out what a program is capable of. Now and then there are also trial versions available. As far as payment goes, a web server company whose web development programs you make use of generally charges you for a website page.

So, before you have purchased web building tools, try free demonstration programs. It will help you decide if the chosen software completely meets your demands such as the graphics & interactivity including opinion polls, membership sigh-ups, message boards that you want to see on your site. Ask yourself whether you would like to be independent of a web server company or not & if the software is user-friendly enough.

Collect information about various website builders before reaching your final decision. Make a draft of each web page you are planning to have in order to facilitate the hunt for proper web development tools.

For sure you will get a website of your dream then!

Following Liposuction, Most Patients Have Very Little Pain

    January 21st, 2010

Prior to your liposuction procedure, your cosmetic surgeon will carefully outline the areas of bulging fat that are to be suctioned. He or she will then draw detailed contour lines in order to further define the contour and shape characteristics of the deposits of fat. Plastic surgeons will use to “tumescent technique” in which a large amount of fluid will be initially placed to swell the area. This technique will allow for fat to be removed in a very smooth, safe, and symmetrical manner. The fluid is able to help loosen the fat while providing a local anesthesia for operative and immediate post-operative discomfort. It will also be able to provide epinephrine which is capable of decreasing bleeding.

In a tumescent lipoplasty, small incisions will be created and small suctions tubes will be inserted to the proper depth of the fat deposit. This cannula, or tube, will then be passed back and forth until an appropriate amount of fat has been removed. The cannula will then be moved over about half of an inch, and again several passes will be made until fat is removed. The entire bulging area will be treated in this fashion. The plastic surgeon will carefully remove small amounts at a time, constantly checking the contour and thickness of the fat as this suctioning proceeds.

After this suctioning is completed, the opposite side will be treated the same way. Your cosmetic surgeon will compare the two sides and adjust the contours to match. After this, the incisions will be carefully closed, and an elastic dressing or garment will be placed to put a gentle pressure on the skin. This will prevent excess fluid from accumulating in the area which has been suctioned. All of the incisions are carefully closed with stitches placed beneath the skin. This will make it so that there is no chance of “railroad” looking scars, but rather very fine line scars will appear. Immediately, you will be able to bathe or shower. None of these stitches will need to be removed, they will simply just dissolve.

Following a lipoplasty, many patients will have very little pain, but rather they will experience such things as tightness, soreness, or fullness. To minimize to collection of swelling and fluid in the areas treated, your plastic surgeon will request that you wear an elastic garment which will be provided for two weeks or more post-surgery. The amount of time will depend on the extent of your procedure. The treated areas will likely feel sore for up to 72 hours, and the soreness will resolve over the next two to three days. You will likely be prescribed medication by your plastic surgeon. Bruising may develop, but will subside with time.

A Brief History of the Hearing Aid

    January 14th, 2010

The first modern version of a hearing aid is usually considered the hearing trumpet or ear trumpet. This was an awkward, oversized devise that was shaped vaguely like a horn or saxophone. The small end was held up the ear canal while the wide opening at the other end funneled sound into the curved tube and up to the ear canal. Someone who was hard of hearing had to either hold the ear trumpet up to his ear, and the other person would have talk into it. This simply amplified the sound waves, and there was usually a fair amount of distortion.

Alexander Bell’s Contributions to the Hearing Aid
When Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, he was actually working on ways to amplify sound of the hearing impaired. His use of a receiver and phone was translated in the early 1900’s into a form of carbon microphone. This hearing aid included a receiver in or over the ear that had multiple wires running to the amplifier, which was worn around the neck.
Although these were a great step forward, they were still cumbersome. They also used up batteries quickly. In fact, most people had to replace the batteries daily.

Fortunately, in the 1920’s, battery life was extended as newer, more efficient forms of batteries were developed. Hearing aids, however, were still fairly large. Some of them were still as big as breadboxes with wires running into the earpiece.

Throughout the 1930’s and 1940’s, new advances rapidly shrank the size of individual hearing aids. Vacuum tubes enabled hearing aids to amplify sound without needing as much equipment. Smaller batteries meant that by the close of the 1940’s, hearing aids had been developed that could fit over and behind the ear. Some were small enough that they could be creatively hidden with the right hairstyle.

    The Transistor Revolutionizes Hearing Aids

In the 1950’s, the transistor enabled vast advancements in hearing aid technology. The transistor, using simple on and off switches with no moving parts, changed the entire premise of how hearing aids worked. Multiple, tiny transistors in individual units provided incremental adjustment capability. Transistors also have a high level of conductivity, making the units not only smaller but much more efficient.

Lithium batteries and integrated circuits were first put into hearing aids in the 1970’s. These smaller hearing aids soon became widely available. For the first time, hearing aids were virtually hidden in the ear, and sound quality improved dramatically.

    The Next Great Leap

In the 1990’s, digital technology again revolutionized the hearing aid industry. It allowed hearing aid manufacturers to develop fully customizable hearing aids that could be adjusted to the specific hearing parameters of each person. New advances such as adaptive dynamic range optimization (sometimes called ADRO) allowed hearing aids to make continual adjustments as circumstances and the wearer’s needs changed.

It’s clear that the future of hearing aid technology will mean that individuals with hearing loss will have even more options in the future.
